Senior Director Ops Projects and Initiatives Operational Strategy and Performance

Gene Kim is the Senior Director of Ops Projects and Initiatives for the Operational Strategy and Performance department at Southwest Airlines.  His responsibilities include leading teams in the management of the Ops Delivery Portfolio to ensure successful execution of the company's operations strategy.  Gene provides operational expertise and guidance across individual operational departments and corporate delivery teams to provide timely and efficient roll out of operational projects and initiatives.

Prior to accepting this role, Gene served as the Senior Director Flight Dispatch, Training and Standards within the Network Operations Control (NOC) center where he was responsible for Flight Dispatch, Air Traffic Control, Meteorology, and Dispatch Training and Standards.  His previous positions at Southwest Airlines have included Director Flight Dispatch, Senior Manager NOC Automation, and Manager Dispatch Training.  Gene previously worked at AirTran Airways as the Manager of Training and International Operations when they were acquired by Southwest Airlines.

Gene has over 26 years of dispatch experience, previously working at Korean Air, Polar Air Cargo, and United Airlines.  He works with several government, industry, and university organizations on matters affecting air transport, particularly in the area of drones and autonomous flight.  Gene proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve while receiving his Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion University from 1985-1989.
